Gauging is essential to any production – Today it forms an integral part of the manufacturing activity. When done inline to production, as a part of the process, time spent is not at all significant. The operator operates the gauge or the gauging machine just like his machine. This is a cell concept that also ensures quality of all parts produced and also immediate feedback to the operator in case correction is required. Now a days manufacturing technology is changing to increase the speed and efficiency of the process and to complement the Gauging technology also. Not all parameters essentially need gauging – parameters, which are responsible for functional reliability, need to be checked and this is the job our Technical Service Department does – “Application Engineering” - to give the Customer an optimized gauging solution.
Over the years, we have manufactured customized gauging for a set of components so many times, that they have today become industry standard, like the connecting rod fixture to measure bend, twist and center distance , fixture to measure center distance between crank pin and journal of two wheeler crankshafts , match gauging to find out the interference or clearance between mating parts , taper gauging fixtures etc. This has been achieved through in depth Application Engineering exercises that we have carried out to understand the component and the manufacturing processes. This gave us the cutting edge needed to deliver total solutions to the satisfaction of the Customer. As a part of continuous technology development, the company also has developed expertise in computerized gauging with semi-auto and fully auto matic gauging machines.
From our years of experience, we have identified some good gauging practices while handling customized gauging projects. The following tips are useful when you send your requirement to us:
- While specifying requirement, please give the complete drawing with all the dimensions to be measured properly highlighted to our sales representative
- It is strongly recommended to give us a sample of component also, because what the drawing may not reveal is disclosed by the actual component. Size, shape and weight give a lot of information for designing a good gauge.
- The gauge acceptance criteria should be discussed and agreed upon at the beginning only.
- When 'General Layout' is sent to you giving overall scheme of gauging, please go through it carefully. If you have any suggestions, communicate them as early as possible. Reconfirm all the dimensions carefully because in the interim period your drawing might have been changed or the process has been changed .
- Please give sufficient time to manufacture. These projects are one off type and for every gauge, manufacturing cycle starts from designing. To make the gauging a success story the entire exercise from conceptualizing to delivery, Installation & commissioning is collaboration between yourself; with your expertise in knowing your component and us, with our knowledge of gauging.
- During gauge e installation, ensure that your operators who are going to use the gauge are properly trained in the usage.
